BECKY - Are there any 'official church comments' about the recent findings in Mississippi? They are Indian artifacts that date to before Christ. I realize the Mississippi is most likely south of where a lot of the Book of Mormon activities happened, but it certainly could be another 'scientific testament' of the Book of Mormon, right?

JOEL - I have read the news articles about this.
It's interesting, but unless they find any artifacts or writings, etc. that are uniquely and specifically mentioned in the Book of Mormon, it really isn't that big of a deal.
Scientists and archeologist have already concluded that there were people living on this continent before and after Christ, based on ancient burial mounds and artifacts that have been found throughout North America. Now if they happen to find some mention of Jesus in some writings or perhaps evidence of horses or metal working, that will make it more interesting.
The Church in general is not going to make any statements about things like this. The Church is all about gospel principles and faith in Christ. If anything unique is found that might relate to the Book of Mormon, it might get a small notice in the Church News or Ensign.
