CAMERON - I am a member of the church and I have aquestion regarding the J. Reuben Clark statement in effect in which he said that we would be happy anywhere God assigns us for eternity, basically we would be happy in some kingdom in the terrestrial kingdom, if this is true than why go through all the steps to get to the celestial kingdom if we would be just as happy somewhere els. I belive the quote came from a talk he gave in the 50's but Pres. Monson used it in the mid eighties in a conference talk.

JOEL - The plan of salvation is a plan of happiness, and everyone will be placed in a level of heaven equal to their level of gospel living and obedience to God's laws; and they will be comfortable and content therein. God allows everyone to choose their eternal reward according to the law they are willing and able to abide.
But only in the Celestial world can the family unit continue eternally. It is only there that we can be exalted and share in everything that God has and have eternal increase. This is something that we all agreed we wanted in the pre-earth life because We loved God and wanted to be like Him. If we follow this course we are promised eternal knowledge(D&C 76:6-7), eternal marriage(D&C 132:19-20), and godhood(D&C 84:34, 38).
The Apostle Paul told the Athenians that we are "the offspring of God." (Acts 17:29.) Just as we would like our own earthly offspring to have all that is possible, so too God wants His children to have everything He has. God said "For behold, this is my work and my glory - to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." (Moses 1:39).
If we truely love Him and want to be a part of His glory we will want to please Him and do all we can to get to where He is.
