COREY - In the Book of Revelations, in 9:1 it talks about a star that fell from heaven who had the key to bottomless pit. I have always took this to be Satan. But in Rev 12:9, which happen after the war in heaven, Satan was casted to the earth. So who is this angel being cast to turn in the seventh seal?

JOEL - Here are the two scriptures:

"And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit."(Rev. 9:1)

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Rev. 12:9)

According to the Revelation 20:9 verse, as a result of the war in heaven in the pre-mortal life, Satan has been cast out with his angels and are already on this earth, but with limited power. Of course this is something that happened long before we came to earth.

In the Rev. 9:1 verse, John mentions that he sees Satan, represented as the star fallen from heaven(Isa. 14:12, Luke 10:18; Rev. 12:9), but Satan is not the fifth angel. The fifth angel is the "him" who in that scriptures is given the key to open the pit which unleashes Satan's full power and evil onto the earth. A prophecy delivered through Joseph Smith may allude to the opening of the pit:

"For I [God] . . . will that all men shall know that the day speedily cometh; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand, when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his own dominion" (D&C 1:35).

This is probably the same angel identified in Rev. 20:1-2, who John saw "come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit."

"And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years," (Rev. 20:1-2)
