GREG - Was Eve the 2nd flesh upon the earth? In the Bible, the Books of Moses,and Abraham, Adam was the first flesh upon the earth physically. The Bible and the Book of Moses, seem to say the animals were next, then Eve was made. In the Book of Abraham , it seems to say Eve was the 2nd flesh, then the animals? seems to me Abraham would be right, but then again, he probably made all the other flesh before the master piece: )

JOEL - Here's how Eve was created. After creating Adam, God took one look at him and said "Oh I can do better than that." :-)

There does appear to be some discrepancy in the order of creation among the scriptures. In Moses the animals are clearly created before Eve and they are brought before Adam to be given names (Moses 3:19). This was followed by the creation of Eve (Moses 3: 21-22).

In the Abraham account, the creation of Eve is mentioned before the creation of the animals,

15. And the Gods caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and he slept, and they took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in the stead thereof;
16. And of the rib which the Gods had taken from man, formed they a woman, and brought her unto the man.
20. And out of the ground the Gods formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air, and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that should be the name thereof. (Abr 5: 15-16, 20 )

So here it sounds like animals were created after both Adam and Eve. It's hard to tell for sure if the fact that they were mentioned in that order really means that they were created in that order or if verse 20 above is just reminding us that God at some point created animals and then brought them before Adam to name them. In fact the very next verse seems to reverse the order.

"And Adam gave names to all cattle, to the fowl of the air, to every beast of the field; and for Adam, there was found an help meet for him." (Abr 5: 21)

So here it seems that the animals were created, Adam named them and then there was a help meet made for him. There are many places in the scriptures where things seem to be mentioned out of sequence, probably because God doesn't concern Himself much with time like we do (Alma 40: 8). Events and doctrine are more important than exactly when things happen. For example consider the following two verses describing the same event:

"And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. (Mark 16:1)

"And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment." (Luke 23:56)

So when did the women obtain the spices to anoint Jesus, before or after the Sabbath?
The only real consequence between the Moses and Abraham creation accounts is whether or not Eve was able to participate in the naming of the animals. I tend to agree that Abraham's record is the most accurate. Since both of them were to have dominion over the animals it seems only fair that Eve should have a say in what they were going to be called. :-)
