JOE - We know from the book of Abraham that Cain's line would be denied the priesthood. We also know that Cain's line was preserved through the flood through Ham and his wife Egyptias. Then we learn that Joseph's wife was an Egyptian and that she was of the line of Ham. Now wouldn't the curse be carried on through to Ephriam and Manassah. Aren't the majority of us LDS of the line of Ephraim and weren't the Nephites of the line of Manassah. It seems then that the denial of priesthood would have been placed upon much more than it was. The only thing I feel might be wrong with my findings is that Joseph's wife wasn't of Ham's line after all but I thought for sure that I read that in a Hugh Nibley book.

JOEL - Joseph married Asenath, who was the daughter of Potipherah, the Egyptian priest of On (Gen. 41: 45). Even though Asenath was Egyptian, she was not of the lineage of Ham. One thing to remember is that the word "Egyptian", does not necessarily describe a race, but it does describe a nationality. Different races of people came into power in Egypt at different times in history. Some were not of the lineage of Ham.
At the time that Joseph was sold into servitude, and taken to Egypt, Lower Egypt had been conquered by and was under the domination of a white race of Semitic people called the Hyksos, or Shepherd Kings. These people had come in from the east and north, from the Euphrates and Tigris, and had driven the native princes of Egypt up the Nile, and had taken possession of Lower Egypt, where they established their own civil government and religion. The ruling Pharaoh at the time that Joseph and his father and family were in Egypt gave Asenath to Joseph to wife. She was the daughter of Potipherah, a priest or prince of On. These people were of the same race that Abraham was. He was a Shepherd King. Thus it will be seen that while Asenath is called an Egyptian because she resided in Egypt, she was not of the Egyptian race, and consequently Joseph's children would not be denied the priesthood
