JON - If we carry our traits, desires and attitudes to the spirit world when we die, then how hard will it be do you think to give up Food and Water. Our desire and need for food and water is like a habit and need. The scriptures say when we die we take those same desires with us. Will we be able to enjoy water and food? Will we be able to enjoy sports and activities that we need to sustain our lives?

JOEL - I have heard it said that even those who die and make it into Paradise are suffering to some degree because they don't have their bodies with them and in their spirits they are longing for the day of resurrection when they get their bodies back and are able to perform actions of a more physical nature again.

Christ speaking to the Church said:
"For as ye have looked upon the long absence of your spirits from your bodies to be a bondage, I will show unto you how the day of redemption shall come, and also the restoration of the scattered Israel." (D&C 45:17).

"For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy; And when separated, man cannot receive a fulness of joy. (D&C 93: 33-34)

So even though we may be in Paradise we are still in a state of bondage without our bodies; unable to have a fulness of joy and do all that we might do with a body.

Orson Pratt said:
"When our spirits leave these bodies, will they be happy? Not perfectly so. Why? Because the spirit is absent from the body; it cannot be perfectly happy while a part of the man is lying in the earth .... You will be happy, you will be at ease in paradise; but still you will be looking for a house where your spirit can enter and act as you did in former times." (JOD)

So it's probably a little easier for those who haven't acquired any physical dependency on things like alcohol or tobacco or drugs before they died. For those who did their spirits may have those desires in the spirit world (spirit prison) but will not be able to satisfy them. I am thinking of that one guy in the movie "Ghost" who wished he could take one more drag on a cigarette, but couldn't as a ghost

As far as I know, spirits will not eat or drink or need exercise nor will they experience all the physical pleasures that come from having a body. I am thinking about the appearance of Jesus to his apostles after His resurrection when he breathed on them(John 20:22), and ate some food(Luke 24:42-43) to show that he indeed had a body, which implies that he would not have done that if He was only a spirit. But even though as spirits we might miss being able to do those things for a while we will be happpily and actively engaged in other work relating to the salvation of those in Spirit Prison.
