KRISTEN - If you really belive the following post of yours to a previous question:

"God is not going to have His prophets describe every little thing we should or should not do. He wants us to use our own free will of choice to decide for ourselves what is right or wrong for many things. He wants us to rely on the influence of the Holy Spirit and our own integrity and faith to know and do what is right. Part of the reason why we are here is to prove to God that we are willing and able to make correct choices and control our passions, without having someone compel us to do so every step of the way. Our Church leaders do not "allow" nor forbid any member to do anything. All they can do is tell us what they have been told by God what is right and wrong for many things. It is up to us to listen to their council, pray for understanding and rely on the Holy Ghost to help us make correct choices about other things that have not been spelled out for us."

How on earth could your church pretend to have any answers to any questions about anything?
Coffee anyone?

JOEL - None for me thanks. It is against my religion :-)
Our Church does have the answers to the most important questions about why we are here and what we should do and try to become. If you study the doctrines of our Church you will see that these are spelled out in the scriptures and revelations from God to our prophets. We learn them and try to live by them.
What I am refering to in the quote above, is a concept best described in the following LDS scripture from the Doctrine and Covenants:

"For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward." (D&C 58:26)

And this one:

"Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness; For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves.
And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward. (D&C 58:27-28)

Our prophets and the scriptures do spell out many things about what is true and what we should and should not do according to what God has told them. But God also does not want us to be blind, helpless followers of the faith. He wants us to exercise our free agency and have our own opportunities to study the Gospel and to be inspired by the Holy Ghost on many of the things we do; especially those things that may be unique to our own personal circumstances.
For example: When God tells us to keep the Sabbath Day holy, what does that mean? What should we do on the Sabath? What should we not do? The scriptures and our Church leaders have specified many things we should and should not do. But everyone's life and situation is a little different from others. People have unique circumstances where they will need to use their own judgement and personal inspiration from the Holy Ghost when deciding if what they are doing on the Sabbath is acceptable or not. This is just one example.
Even James in the Bible tells us:

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." (James 1:5)

If we are to have every little detail of every commandment explained and specified to us by our scriptures and/or prophets, why would James tell us to ask God and find out for ourselves the wisdom we seek?
