TWIGGY - In D&C 137 Joseph Smith sees his unbaptised brother Alvin in the Celestial Kingdom who informs him that whoever is dead who would have received the gospel if they had the oppourtunity to in lfe, will be heirs to the Kingdom of God (verse 8). This seems to contradict the LDS belief that one needs a baptism (or a proxy baptism) to have any chance of being saved. Any thoughts on this contradiction?

JOEL - This isn't a contradiction. These scriptures only tell us that they would be saved, but they just didn't explain how or when it would be done. It means that for those who did not receive the opportunity in life, God will make sure that the gospel is taught to them in the Spirit World and make sure that someone will be baptized for them so they can inherit the Celestial Kingdom. The whole purpose for this revelation was to describe what the results would be of ordinances that were being done for the dead in the temple.
