JANN - I've heard that in the very last days that. Salt Lake City would be one of the most wicked cities in the world. Is that an urban legend or what?

JOEL - I am sure some think that has already happened:

Parley P. Pratt is rumored to have said something like that. J. Golden Kimball, in a conference address in 1930, quoting the words of his father spoken in 1868, said:

"I claim not to be a prophet, but I am a son of a prophet, and I expect to give you evidence-whether you question the truth of it or not-that shall be left with you-that Heber C. Kimball was a prophet of God. President Brigham Young on more than one occasion said: ‘Heber is my prophet, and I love to hear him prophesy.’ In May, 1868-that is sixty-two years ago–he said: ‘After a while the gentiles will gather in Salt Lake City by the thousands, and this will be among the wicked cities of the world.” (Heber C. Kimball, Conference Report, Oct. 1930, p. 58-59)

We know that at Christ's second coming he will cleanse the earth of telestial wickedness which will usher in the Millennium. And when it comes time to cleanse the earth in the last days, the Lord has said he will begin within his own house:

"23. Verily, verily, I say unto you, darkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has become corrupt before my face.
24. Behold, vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of desolation, of weeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whirlwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
25. And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord; 26. First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord" (D&C 112:23-26).

The verse in question is #25 where he says "And upon my house shall it begin". "My house" refers to the church membership in general(1 Tim. 3:15, see also 1 Pet 4:17); similar to the term "House of Israel" and because His house is based in Salt Lake City, some might assume this means that the destruction would start there because it will be the most wicked; but that's a bit of a stretch.
