JON - I have been trying to explain the Lords commandments to my family. Other than the 10 commandments, Tithing, Word of Wisdom. I am doing so well as to what they all are. I have been LDS most of my life and as of yet really didn't realize I don't know all the commandments. Is there a place that lists (for LDS Members) all the commandments we need to obey. For instance I know we have been asked to pray daily and read the scriptures. Is this a commandment or suggestion. Are you able to list the commandments for me so I can know what I am talking about with my Grandchildren and Children as I try and teach them to be obediant to the commandments.

JOEL - Jesus said:

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matt 22:37-40)

In other words if you live these two commandments you have all the others covered. As to the details I would have to refer you to all the scriptures that have been written and everything that has come to us through the latter- day prophets. The Doctrine and Covenants used to be called the "Book of Commandments".

The Lord said to the Church, "Thou shalt give heed unto all [Joseph Smith's] words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me; for his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith" (D&C 21:4-5; cf. D&C 1:37-38; 5:10; 68:34).

Based upon these admonitions, members of the Church accept righteous instruction from those authorized by God as commandments binding upon the Church and upon individuals.

The Ten commandment is a good place to start. After that we read the scriptures and listen to our prophets and live by their principles. What ever we read or hear that relates to our relationship with God or our neighbor become commandments to us so that we may more fully live the two great commandments.
